I am so excited to be bringing you another fab collection of images and this time they come from a very talented artist Marina! I have been searching for a new style for the store and when I stumbled across Marina I was delighted!
When I was putting the hop list together I decided – RIGHT Zoe – you need to take some time out and get creative too – so I dropped my name in to commit myself to the task!! haha
AND I am so glad I did! I had a relaxing time last night just enjoying the love of crafting. I LOVE the card I made! I think it is one of my favourites; the image, the colouring and EVEN the card layout. Pats self on back! haha
Mind you I didn’t get to bed until 4am!! Then I was up at 8:30!! I will be a wreck tonight.
Here’s the card I made!
To create the scene I started by drawing a square ‘boundary’ box and set it to the size I wanted (3.5″) – Then I positioned the Seaweed Sea Floor image at the bottom and flipped it. I wanted Mermaid Lola to appear to be coming out of the scene so I positioned her so that her hand/hair and tail popped out the sides of my ‘boundary’ box.
After colouring her, I cut out all the sections of Lola outside the square carefully with a cutting knife and then cut out the remainder of the boundary box.
Here’s a closer view!
When colouring the tail, I decided to dab with dots rather than have a smooth effect to try and created some texture from the scales. I started with the dark areas and gradually went lighter and finished with a slight amount of blending to the highlights.
The sand was coloured the same way and to help bring your attention to the centre of the image I made the corners darker.
The background was carefully coloured creating a gradient of three colours using ‘darker’ shades to help Lola stand out in the foreground. You really need JUICY markers when creating a gradient effect for large areas. You may notice the bottom and the top colours are slightly greener than the centre which is slightly blue. I was hoping this would give the effect of some ‘distance’.
My loooong list of colours includes:
Skin: E0000, E000, E21, B60
Hair: YR20, YR21, YR23, YR24, E35, E37
Tail: BG70, B00, BG02, BG72, BG15, BG75, C2, C4
Sand: YR30, Y21, Y23, Y26, Y28, W5
Water: BG13, BG45, BG49
Misc: R01, R02, R20, R22, R24, R29, Y38, G14, G16, G28, 0
One of my favourite card layouts!
You wont read that often!! I usually cringe looking at my cards but I think the DT ladies are finally rubbing off on me. HAHA It’s about time!
But this time I took the time to frame the DP and add layers and picked good colours for once!
I used papers from lilybeedesign and My Mind’s Eye matted with brown cardstock. I added the yellow ribbon to coordinate with her golden hair and to help frame the image I added some Ornate Corner chipboard inked with brown ink and a few paper flowers.
I created the sentiment digitally and then cut the bottom with a spellbinders border.
It’s hard to see but I added some silver liquid pearls to the bubbles just to add a little texture.
And since I am all excited… Another Photo!! haha
And now it’s time to get back to the hop!
I hope you have enjoyed all the inspiration along the way.
