Hi Everyone,
Well as some of you are aware, I am always looking for ways to improve my colouring and often I will go off with the intent to concentrate on one element. Whether it be hair, folds, a colour combination or whatever happens to take my fancy at the time.
I’ve been feeling a little unchallenged over the last few months, not that I think I am awesome or anything… lol gosh must set that straight! But really I think because I have been tired and busy and just haven’t had the ‘will power’ to challenge myself.
But recently I have found myself interested in ‘DEFINING MUSCLES’!! I am kind of sick of colouring the same way all the time. Dark to light and sure there is depth there but the characters all look like they are round and have no muscle tone, nooooo definition – they haven’t been to the gym!!! ha ha
So this is my new colouring adventure.
Learning how to add some definition and I thought I would attempt to share my progress with you along the way. I bought a book on drawing in pencil but it was only for faces, so I need to do some research and find another.
But I couldn’t wait to have a bit of a play and so here’s what I managed to colour up in my playtime this weekend.
I enlarged ‘Chanetelle at the Races‘ so that I could concentrate on her face and upper body.
I am not ‘thrilled’ with the result as I really could have done a better job on the shadows on her face and the arms don’t look right.
BUT it is a start.
I just need more study & practice!
I possibly should have chosen a different image as manga characters don’t generally have ‘defined’ features.
But I like this image… hehe
OK, the Colours!
Skin: E0000, E000, E21, E51, E11
Red: R35, RV29, R89, E29
Teal: G00, BG13, BG49
Black: C2, C5, C7, C9
Background: B63, B66, B69
Thanks for popping on over!
Big Aussie Squeezes.

Been thinking more of …muscles and body structure and trying to give some more interesting colortones and go a little outside that round coloring that you where also talking about. I love how you did her upper body!! and her neck! It is so fun to find new ways! Happy coloring Zoe!! hugs Sandra
Ps and I used to use pink tones all the time in the face (maybe because I have that….) but now I have turned more into orange which is sooo nice tones in the face

Hi Zoe, I love what you have done, the shadows around her neck look fabulous, and I love the bodice of her dress. I would love to be this good. Okay off to practice.
amazing!!! Awesome job <3 <3
Awesome! You have such talent. You are such an inspiration to push my coloring further. I just finished ‘copying’ your stamp coloring of the lady reclining with the blue dress with all the folds. I wanted to try copying first to try and get the idea down before I strike out with my own colors. Now I have something new to try. Keep on being an inspiration to all of us to push our coloring to a higher level.
Zoe, this is awesome. You are ubber talented and such an inspiration.
I love the coloring, very detailed and beautiful. TFS
