——————————————————————–
Hi Everyone,
Wow! The last number of weeks has been hectic but fabulous too! Every ‘spare’ minute I have been working on creating these colouring tutorials and I have to admit that I was just so nervous about releasing the first one.
It took me so long to finally decide to go ahead with the colouring tutorials as truth be told, I was worried that having offered a lot of my thoughts and ideas on colouring over the last couple of years that you may think I was being ‘cheeky’ to ask you to pay for more of my thoughts and ideas! But, as you can imagine, these tutorials take me a long time to write, the thought process, what will work well together, the colouring, photos, how to explain it so you can understand without me sitting there… And I just hoped you would find that of value.
And… from the feedback I have received, you have encouraged me to continue and document more of my ideas on colouring our favourite little characters! Thank you!!
So so far I have released the, Colouring Techniques with Markers e-book, Shading with a Light source e-book – Now available as a combo too! – and…. guess what?
I am excited to be releasing another colouring tutorial on my absolute favourite topic… HAIR!! But not any style of hair… This time I have jumped right in to show you how I achieve beautiful detailed hair with fine flicks and lots of depth.
Colouring Long Hair with Fine Detail!
I share a little technique I made up to try and show you what goes on in my head then I take you through the process of building hair. I will tell you upfront… this is not an easy process. It takes time, patience and practise but if you can get the basics and grab the concept then practise will make you perfect!
Now there’s something extra special about this tutorial. I needed a special image that was going to test your boundaries. Something that I could show you how to break up sections of hair, create depth and highlights as well as being full of body so you can experience creating the texture of hair with ‘space’. I knew the perfect style of image would be by Krista Smith of Saturated Canary. When I contacted Krista and told her my plan I was thrilled when she suggested she could illustrate and donate the image for the tutorial! How amazing is that?! And then… my mouth dropped when she sent through the image. She was just PERFECT for this tutorial!! And I had to laugh, when krista said… and in case you want to know – her name is Zoe! haha Seriously, I thought, people are going to start thinking I have a big head naming all these characters after myself!! I didn’t this time!! promise!! haha
Krista sweetie – Thank you so much for sharing the PERFECT image for this tutorial!! Big Squeezes!!
Special Release BLOG HOP!!
My gorgeous DT girls are amazing!! They are just so supportive and I love them so much! They were so excited when I finally let them in on my secret and they couldn’t wait to jump in and colour too – so at the last minute I thought – let’s make a thing of it then!! So today I am releasing the latest colouring tutorial ‘Colouring Long Hair in Fine Detail’ and the MiC Girls and our special guest Krista are joining in to show you how they fared!
Here’s the blog hop list!
Would you like a chance at winning a copy?
I will be giving away TWO copies to two lucky people who leave a comment on THIS post and I will announce the two winners Monday 27th August on my blog here and on Make it Crafty Fan page on FaceBook.
If you can’t wait and want to go ahead and buy it now, if you happen to be randomly chosen, I will refund your money.
BUT there is a catch – when you leave your comment – I want you to include your favourite hair colour and or colour combo if you have one!! But only ONE! Not two, three – or you can’t decide… I know you have a favourite!
I think it’s time to see what you will be colouring! And I even made a card!! woohoo!
Hasn’t Krista just illustrated THE perfect head of hair for this tutorial?!?! You know when I was first talking to her I said… Krista, even if you could just draw me some hair!! No face or anything – just your gorgeous hair!! She must have thought I was insane!! (and I have likely since confirmed that!! lol)
Well I sure hope you like the latest tutorial and I really hope that it helps you on your colouring journey.
Thank you for all your support everyone!
You’re the best friends to have and you really know how to make me feel special too!!
Big Aussie Squeezes!!!

Kim xx
Oh Zoe, she is absolutly amazing. I love the way everybody in this hop has used different colours and shades to show that it really doesnt matter what colours you use if the technique is right. This is without doubt a must have tutorial and I can see many an evening spent practising and practising. We are such a lucky bunch of girls to have people like you and Krista to share your knowledge and skills with us. I cant wait to get my hands on this!! xx Thank you xx
I loved this hop and enjoyed seeing all the wonderful hair combos I have to admit, I am kind of boring with my hair color and my “go to” color is usually browns and my fave combo is the E40′s. Awesome hop, tfs

WOW!!! what else can I say!!!! She looks absolutely breathtaking!!! The hair is just fantastic in so many ways!!!! I did’nt want to buy the booklet now (just in case I won one….) but the promise of a refund VERY quickly changed my mind!! lol. I’ve done the hop and loved every single card and coloured image!! (too bad I couldn’t view Julie and Ruby’s, but will try again later) As a long time fan of ALL your stuff and a more recent fan of Saturated Canary this is certainly a MUST HAVE!!!
Oh my this is jsut amazing, I cannot believe how incredible your colouring is!! Fab image, love the card too. My fave hair combo for me to do with Copics is E29, 37, 35,33 and YR31. However I am thinking the combo you have done here could become a new favourite, it looks brilliant x
oh, so excited to go get mine, I completely forgot to mention which colours I love. I only have some E markers (hoping to change that VERY soon) but my favourite is E31 E33 E35 and E37!!

Wow, you have got an amazing image to work with, and I so need to learn how to colour like this. I think I’d be happy if my efforts looked just half this good. She’s fabulous. My favourite colour for hair is probably a dark walnut with highlights. I think that it really looks rich and luscious and I love it.
ps – Wish I personally had hair like the ‘Zoe’ in your photos too!!!
Thanks for the chance to win, and I’m off to look at the link to the book now too.
Have a fab weekend
Annette
xx
Back from hopping! Thouroughly enjoyed myself, wow the ladies did great work! Such talent! Hugs Frea
Now this is perfect hair! Styled and combed to perfection, not a strand out of place. My fav hair to color has to be using the Copic Toner colors to make black hair. I love the way it looks–so exotic and mysterious.
WOW… OH WOW this is FANTASTIC! LOVE IT
Hugs
Stuuuuuuuuuuuuning!! I will need that tut. at my next spending spree…
Your card is absolutely beautiful, so amazingly girly! It blows me away that hair on paper can look so real, fab job! I don’t have much talent w/coloring hair so browns (E31, 33, 35, 37) is about as adventurous as I get!
Thanks for the chance! This is amazing! The hair combo I reach for most is E31, E35, E37 and E29.
WOW Zoe! That hop was awesome! I tend to stick to traditonal Brunettes… having only a few markers I find it’s easiest to achieve highlights etc! One day I hope to be able to do hair like that!! x
Hi Zoe, Gosh this is so inspiring. I just got your other eBooks last night! This would have made it to my shopping cart for sure.
I might just wait to see if my luck is on fire. LOL. My newest favourite hair colour is RV000 base, E04, R56 R59, it’s a gorgeous Plum.
Cheers,
Kasey ~ in Oz
Hi Zoe dear!
your colouring is exceptional. As you know I have all your E-Books and absolutely love them. Especially the hair one. You have made it so easy to follow so I am looking forward to hours of fun learning how to colour. The price is unbelievably low for the work you have put into these books. I have printed all of them off and have a Zoe library now. Thank you Zoe for all your hard work.
Big Hugs
Maz
Oops!! I did mean to say that I haven’t worked out my best hair colours yet with my new ShinHan brush markers and please leave me out of the draw as I already have your gorgeous book and would love someone who hasn’t got it to have it.
Hugs maz
I can’t thank you enough for sharing this with us Zoe! Of course I couldn’t wait and bought it immediately. I’m on vacation so I can practice in peace! I don’t really have a favorite combo but E99,E97, E25, E51, E50 is really nice. XOXO
Zoe, your tutorial is so perfect for we mere mortals in the creative world! I’m off to buy your ebook now! I’ve no confidence colouring hair, so I’m super excited to have this wonderful tool to consult. I have a hair colour combo which I did on another of Krista’s beautiful images ‘Springtime’ which I was really happy with. I coloured her with pale straw-like blonde colours. I’m a Promarker girlie, so I hope the ebook works with any marker. So excited to read it! Thanks, Wends x
I cannot wait to see this new tutorial. I love the previous 2 of them . Krista did such a wonderful job on creating her for you Zoe and of course I love her name. I think I love the brown hair E41,42,43,44,47 & 49. That seems to be more realistic to me than any other one. Thank you once again Zoe and you too Krista. 2 very talented artists….
When I saw Krista’s image I was sooo excited, when I saw your colouring I was in awe and when I read your tutorial I was inspired! Your finished card is totally gorgeous too! Well done my fabulous friend!

Oh my goodness Zoe….this is BEAUTIFUL girl…. I can’t wait to get a copy of the tutorial. If I accomplish 1/8 of your talent on an image I will be a HAPPY CRAFTER! LOL.
Here is a combo I like to use on hair: E31, E33, E35, E57, E27, E49, E51
Thanks so much for the tutorial Zoe, and a fun chance to win.
hugs.
Peggy B.
would be awesome to win this ebook! i have the first one and LOVE it. haven’t been doing much coloring lately but I love coloring redheads so it would have to be YR12, YR14, YR18, R08.
Yeow this is stunning Zoe! The highlighting is perfect. I so need this tutorial. Hair is my big downfall in coloring. I love brunette shades but can’t seem to get them balanced so my fave combo that I can do decently is E51, E53, E55, E57. Thanks so much for the chance to win your awesome tutorial! Hugs!
Zoe you’re amazing… and these series of e-books are the best ver… Thanks for sharing your tips and discoveries…
My combo:E 17, E18, E19
This is one stunning head of hair and love the card. Oh boy do I wish I could colour like that.
I don’t have a favourite colour combo for hair as I’m still in the process of the big learning curve and keep on trying different ones that are listed on blogs.
I watch tutorials and keep on trying, that seems to be the way to go, practice, practice.
Thanks for your great tutorial.
Dear Zoe! Your work with hair is out of this world, hun! Your “little Zoe” is a dream, perfect strands and highlights, a masterpiece!
Thank you for this experience, it has been TRILLING and from all the commentes on blogs and FB, a great success, i think!
Hugs, Franz.

She is stunning, I love her hair and I want this tutorial. My favorite color combo is E33,35,29.
She’s lovely, your coloring is awesome! My fav hair color is red YR04 YR07 YR09 R08. Can I take this tutorial when I have not taken the 1st two, are they related?
OMG Zoe, she’s gorgeous and your colouring, well do I have to repeat myself and all people leaving comments?
Out of this world!! You make all the images look so realistic! This tutorial is defintiely a must have, thank you for a chance to win! My favourite hair colour combo is E59, 49, 29, 27, 51, 50.
Hugs, Silvie xx
I looove Krista’s drawings and the hair!! I love the pinks/purplish shades that combine beautifully together
OMG Zoe she has such amazingly beautiful hair. I wish you could come and colour my hair so it looked had such beautiful shine. My favourite way to colour hair is using the E40s. Well, its not really a favourite it just what I do because I’ve never even considered anything as radical as red or blue (that I saw on the hop) or mixing the colour families. OMG how scarey would that be! I definitely need plenty of practice and inspiration. cheers Linda
Absolutely beautiful! This is so inspiring. I think I need lots of practice….
Love your coloring….but you are making this one very tough. I get stuck on coloring hair…meaning, I get caught up in browns, then reds, the blacks….and right now it is blonds…so my favorite blond combo is E34/35, YR 23, Y21 and Y 15. With the combo colors I vary depending on how the shading looks after I am done and may add the darker colors as an afterthought.
Thank you Zoe for all your hints and tips on colouring. If it weren’t for you, I’d still be in the pre-school phase xxx
I’m not surprised at the amount of compliments that you have recieved on your e-books. Your coloring is always so amazing, and the fact that you are willing to share your techniques with us is a gift that keeps on giving!
Thanks for the chance to win your e-book. My favorite hair color would have to be brunette. I know all of the different shades of color that I’ve seen in my hair over the decades, so it is easier to understand the concept of why hair is so difficult to color. You’ve made me think out of the box on so much of my coloring already, so I want to take this opportunity to thank you again for all of your help.
Wonderful image and LOVE your coloring- I’d love to join in for a chance to win the e-book, as I could use the practice and learn how to achieve the great look you have gotten! I love brunette hair color with a touch of ash (my hair color….) . I always start with an undercoloring of blond……
I have been practicing with no luck on long hair and I will be purchasing your book. My favorite hair color is brunette with a touch of red and blond. I have tried e29, 27, 25, 13 and E50 – although I can’t seem to make the long hair work! Thank you for another new book!! Kathy.
Definitely need this book. Have the other two and they are great.
The image and your coloring are beautiful. Really enjoyed the hop and all the different colors of hair.
Even though I’m a brunette, I usually do blonde hair with my copics.
when I get home from my holiday I have to buy this one (and the rest) do I can lear to color more beautifully! my favorite color combo is bg 70 – 72 – 75 – 78, we are not friends but I love that combo!
Thanks so much for writing and colouring these books, I just love them! This one will add to my new library too. You are such an inspiration Zoe!

I have just started working with copics so I do not have a fav hair combo yet. I am so excited to see how you create such glorious hair.
I have already bought your first two tutorials and am so excited this one has been released! They are just brilliant and well written. My favourite combo at the moment is YR27, E07 and E08 with a hint of either R59 or E09 at the end to further deepen.
Absolutely beautiful hair! Lovely card, she is stunning, just love her hair! My favorite hair coloring is blonde, so I use Y21, E53, and E11.
I love how you color! My favorite hair color combo to color is a combo of brown and red shades.

Zoe this is gorgeous. Your book is a must have!
Her hair is fabulous! If I I don’t

must buy list.
I love your technique and being blonde I tend to admire brunettes with highlights of any colour. I think it gives a lovely lift.
Wow! I am new to copic coloring and so I do not have any favorites colors yet. I am very intimidated by hair coloring. I’ve seen some fabulous hair coloring on the web. Zoe is fabulous. I would love to try to win your tutorial. But, will have to purchase if I’m not so lucky.
A perfect colouring hair gives character and life to an image, for me one of the important things of colouring images.
My favorite is ginger hair, the darker version.
Dear Zoe, thank you so much for this great chance to win your tutorial.
