I’ve created my first card for a Tiddly Inks challenge and it’s all about Making it POP!
It’s fun to add dimension to your projects and one of the best ways I have seen and have started using myself, is an idea of Jennifer McGuires where she uses FUN FOAM to pop up large areas instead of doubled sided foam tape. I LOVE it. I even cut little pieces and pop up characters and other elements too.
For my project today I printed Molly My Sweet with lighter lines so that I could colour her with the no line technique, however my new printer printed the lines darker than my old printer so annoyingly I can still see the grey lines.
Dress: RV04, RV17, RV19, RV69
Hair: YR31, E35, E37, E39, E29
Skin: E000, E01, E11, E13, E17, B63
Misc: W1, W3, W5, BV13, V17, Y15, YR24
I was trying to decide what element I would add to make it ‘pop’ when I had the idea to cut around her little dress! Then using a foam mat and embossing tool I rubbed the back of the skirt to stretch the paper and make it curl.
I had originally planned to place my sentiment from the edge across her dress but after the idea of popping it up I couldn’t do that anymore and so it took me hours to decide what I was going to do!!
As you can see, in the end I went with a top left position and changed up all my colours I had planned.
I used one of the new words I designed at Make it Crafty – Birthday Brush 2 inches.
I inked the backing layer with an opaque ink – Versa Color Sand Beige – to get a light foundation and then when dry I inked over the top with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. By adding the lighter color first, I was able to fill in some of the pores of the cardboard creating a better foundation for the DI resulting in a better final colour.
For the word ‘Birthday’ I used WOW! Pearl Gold Sparkle embossing powder which I chose because it is more a ‘yellow’ gold which I thought would work well with the design.
I also heat embossed the little stars and ‘Happy’ sentiment to match.
Thanks so much for ‘POPPING’ by today. teehee
The other projects are gorgeous.
Be sure to pop on over for a peek!
